Who Pays Deed Tax in Minnesota?

Under standard Minnesota Association of Realtors (MNAR) purchase agreements, the seller pays the State Deed Tax. The buyer pays the Mortgage Registry Tax (0.0023 of the loan amount).

Exemptions & Low-Value Deeds

Deeds transferring property for consideration of $3,000 or less (such as intra-family quitclaim deeds) carry a flat minimum State Deed Tax of $1.65 under Minn. Stat. § 287.21 Subd. 1.
