Shorewood market — $750K – $1.25M bracket

Shorewood spreads across bays and islands with housing that runs from modest ramblers to multimillion-dollar lakefront. Christmas Lake, partly inside city limits, has the clearest water in the metro and prices that reflect it. Median is $850,000 with 28 days on market. Chris Deutsch of Lakes Area Realty maps which pocket fits which budget, because Shorewood refuses to be one market.

Chris Deutsch's honest take

Shorewood is the 'Smart Buy' next to Excelsior. You're two minutes from Water Street but get a bigger lot and a slightly lower price tag. The housing stock swings hard—mid-century ramblers on one road, $5M lakefront on the next.

The trade-off

It's sprawling. You really need to check the map—some parts feel like Excelsior, others feel like the country.

Local notes

  • Badger Park is the spot dog walkers keep to themselves.
  • Joey Nova's is the reliable pizza stop for the entire area.
